AI actors and avatars in short-video apps
AI actors, or avatars, are generated people who present or act in a video from a script, without anyone being filmed. As of 2026-09-25.
Captions uses generative AI to make new footage and AI actors. Revid lists avatars, face swaps and podcasts. CapCut's video generator uses avatars as well as text-to-video.
For short video, AI actors fill the presenter role: a face on screen reading a script.
They raise the same questions as any likeness: whose face, whose consent, and how it is labelled.
The pages read describe the feature, not the rules around it, which sit in each app's terms.
Captions also offers digital twins, a user's own likeness, which is a different arrangement from a stock actor.
Several platforms ask for AI-made people to be labelled, which an app's page may not mention.

2Making the drama before the edit
Upstream of an app feature like “AI actors”, SceneMixer describes its own generation steps:
The longest an episode may run: 240 seconds for Short Drama, 300 for TV Series, none for Film.

SceneMixer turns a novel into a watchable short-drama series in one pipeline: upload the novel (Chinese or English) → AI extracts characters, scenes, and an episode-by-episode structure → generates consistent character and scene art → writes storyboard scripts → renders video segment by segment (16:9 by default, 9:16 in one setting) → composites full episodes.
