Text to speech: a voice read from typed words
Text to speech reads typed words aloud in a synthetic voice, so a video can have narration without anyone recording it. As of 2026-09-25.
CapCut converts text to speech with natural-sounding voices. Zeemo lists AI text to speech and voice design. Clipchamp has an AI voiceover generator, and Filmora lists text to speech among its AI tools.
It is the oldest of the voice features and the most common: faceless channels, explainers and product videos are often narrated entirely by it.
Voices are chosen from a library by language, accent and tone. Some apps, Zeemo among them, also let a voice be designed from a description.
Pacing is where synthetic narration gives itself away. Most editors let pauses and emphasis be adjusted, and a few accept markup for it.
Text to speech differs from dubbing in its starting point: it reads a script, where dubbing replaces speech that was already recorded.
Commercial use can depend on the voice's licence as well as the plan, so the voice library's terms are worth a look before a video is used in an ad.
Several of these apps count text to speech in characters or credits rather than including it outright.

2Making the drama before the edit
Upstream of an app feature like “Text to speech”, SceneMixer describes its own generation steps:
A script longer than about 10,000 characters (counted as Chinese-equivalent characters) is read in two passes: first the cast, sets and props, then the episode list with a short outline per episode.

16:9 landscape (SceneMixer's default) and 9:16 vertical (the usual short-drama frame), chosen per project.
