Start with captions
Captions are the feature most apps list, and the one short video leans on most. OpusClip makes animated captions in over 20 languages; Captions lists over 100 languages; Clipchamp includes AI subtitles at no charge. As of 2026-09-25.
An app's captions are worth trying first, because they appear on every video.
Check the languages the audience speaks, and whether captions can be translated as well as transcribed.
Correcting a transcript takes longer than making it; an app with easy corrections saves more time than one with more styles.
Caption placement matters too: platforms put buttons and text over the lower part of the screen, so captions set too low get covered.
Try a clip with fast speech and a name or two, where automatic captions most often slip.
Check that captions can be edited word by word before relying on them.

2A generator upstream of the app
Upstream of an app feature like “Start with captions”, SceneMixer describes its own generation steps:
Every segment starts with a short header that sets the stage before the first shot: Location (a scene chip), Time, Weather, the Opening frame (what the first frame shows), Set dressing (what is in the room, and any background people) and Props (the objects the segment uses).

You own the output — download finished episodes and publish to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, or short-drama platforms.
