Video resizer: a new shape, the same picture
A video resizer changes a video's canvas to another aspect ratio, such as 9:16 or 1:1, and leaves the framing inside it for the editor to set. As of 2026-09-25.
Videoleap lists a video resizer for any platform or purpose. Clipchamp puts trimming, cropping and resizing on every plan. Quso exports in 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1, and Pictory resizes for all major platforms in 1080p.
A resizer is the simpler relative of auto reframe. It offers presets for each platform and, in most apps, a choice between cropping the picture and fitting it inside bars.
Fitting keeps everything in shot but leaves bands above and below, which look out of place in a feed of full-screen video. Cropping fills the screen but can cut someone out.
For footage shot vertically in the first place, a resizer is mostly used the other way round, to make a square or landscape copy for another platform.
Several apps list a resizer and an automatic reframe as separate items, which is a hint that the resizer on its own does not track anyone.
Resizing is usually available on every plan; it is one of the features no-charge plans keep, since it costs the app little to run.
The register records a resizer as its own reading so it is not counted as reframing.
